Genre painter and draughtsman of peasant life. Active in Antwerp, Amsterdam and Haarlem. 1605/06 born in Oudenaarde, Flanders; 1626-1627 in Haarlem and Amsterdam; 1631-1632 in Antwerp, St Luke Guild; knew Jan Lievens; pupil of Frans Hals; 1638 died in Antwerp.
