Paul Pontius (1603-1658)
Paul Pontius (1603-1658)
This is the well-known artist who lived in Rubens house and took care of it when Pieter-Paul was on his business and political trips. It is believed that Pontius acquired a good deal of Rubens studio drawings and took them with him when he left Antwerp. Pontius was a pupil of Lucas Vorsterman. With almost the same talent he continued his work but his personality was expressed by a more refined virtuosity, with a marvellous hand who shows best in his exquisite portraits.
