Carl Wilhelm Kolbe (1759-1835)

Draughtsman and etcher. b. Berlin, lived Dessau. In 1780 teacher of French at the Philanthropinum. To Berlin 1790 to study art at Academie. Return to Dessau in 1795, where appointed Hofkupferstecher and taught French and etching at the Hauptschule, where he remained until his retirement in 1828. Between 1805-8 spent two years in Zurich etching Gessner's gouaches.
