Painter, draughtsman and architect. Born in Bologna, active in Mantua under Giulio Romano (Palazzo Te and Palazzo Ducale),
moved to Fontainebleau in 1532, where he was made 'surintendant' of the works after Rosso Fiorentino's death in 1540.
Sent to Rome to buy originals and casts of statues in 1540.
 
After his own death, some of his works were completed by Nicolo dell'Abbate.
Sometimes referred to as Saint Martin de Boulogne in French texts (Primaticcio was abbot of Saint-Martin of Troyes)
