ITALIAN COASTAL SCENE
Signed Marco Sadeler excudit
As Marco did not engrave but only published this is most likely a work by another member of the Sadeler family.
The technique an especially the drawing of the figures is very near to a splendid series of four done by Aegidius Sadeler (H. 237-240) after Roeland Savery.
In fact the resemblance is so close this must be dome bu the same artist. (see extra image attached)
Attribution engraver: Aegidius Sadeler
Attribution inventor Roelandt Savery.
Circular watermark in the paper (Italian)

Marco Sadeler (1660 active)
Publisher, working in Venice; relationship to rest of Sadeler family unknown. His relationship with Justus Sadeler is unknown, but he inherited much of Justus's stock, and was a great rival to the Remondini in the 1660s. Danckers Danckerts acquired some of his plates in Venice in 1655/6 (Gedrukt tot Amsterdam, 2010, p.78.). His stock was eventually sold after his death to the Remondini in 1709
Inventor
Roelandt SAVERY (1576-1639)
Flemish painter and etcher of landscapes, animal subjects, and still-life, the best-known member of a family of artists.
He was born in Kortrijk (Courtrai), grew up in Amsterdam, and in 1619 settled in Utrecht, but he is best known for his association with Prague, where he worked for the emperor Rudolf II from 1603 to 1613. Rudolf's famous menagerie allowed him to study in detail the exotic animals that became the trademark of his work. He painted and drew creatures such as pelicans, ostriches, camels, and the now extinct dodo, and was one of the first artists in the Netherlands to do pictures of animals alone. His favourite subjects, however, were Orpheus and the Garden of Eden, which allowed him to include any number of colourful beasts. Savery's bright and highly finished style is similar to that of Jan "Velvet" Bruegel, but is somewhat more archaic. His rare flower paintings are sometimes of outstanding quality, and with Bosschaert he was an influential Flemish exponent of this genre in Holland. Houbraken, the Dutch painter and author of a large biographical work, says that Savery died insane.
